AMERICAN KENPO KARATE

Mission

Our goal is to provide a safe and positive martial art experience for students from 3 years to adult. We offer a family oriented environment, dedicated to the ageless martial art disciplines of personal fitness, self defense, self respect, self confidence and self discipline. Our classes are challenging, fun, and motivate our students to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The Origins of Kenpo

The martial arts began over a thousand years ago in China. At the beginning of the seven-teenth century the knowledge of Kenpo had reached Japan. Near the beginning of World War ll James Mitose brought Kosho-Ryu Kenpo from Japan to Hawaii. Passing the knowledge down to William K.S. Chow, who taught the art to Edmund K. Parker. ln 1954 Mr. Parker, the father of American Kenpo Karate, opened the first commercial karate studio in America, located in Pasadena, Ca. Rick Jeffcoat began training in Ed Parkers Kenpo Karate in 1984. Rick is now teaching , American Kenpo Karate in Pasadena. His first studio was opened in 1995, where he and his staff continues to honor the legacy of the martial art traditions that go back centuries, and are constantly seeking new and innovative ways to enthuse and excite our students!
